Rise 305

As a part of Leadership Miami, a program of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce,
RISE305 has elected to assist PATCHES, a licensed nursing center caring for medically
complex children from birth to 21 years old.

This organization was founded by three nurses who recognized a dire need in the
community. They cashed in their respective 401Ks in order to address the lack of adequate
medical care for these suffering children. Thanks to PATCHES, infants and children are
able to get out of the hospital sooner or leave the isolation of home care and spend the day
in a safe, enriching environment where they can thrive physically, developmentally and
socially. PATCHES helps countless families by providing excellence in pediatric nursing
and respiratory care, as well as occupational, speech, and physical therapy. As a result,
parents can feel secure returning to work or school.

Rise 305 is looking for your assistance with our efforts to create a Snoezelen Room - a
safe and non-threatening environment where children with disabilities or other limiting
conditions can enjoy gentle stimulation of the primary senses. Without this room,
many children will be unable to achieve any mental growth due to their disability. At
Addlington School in Reading, England, for example, teaching staff find SNOEZELEN
room an “invaluable resource…useful or a wide range of ages and abilities and a varied
curriculum.”

This room will enable children to experience self-control, autonomous discovery, and
exploration, allowing them to overcome inhibitions, enhance self-esteem, and reduce
tension. This room will serve as a critical component to the sustainable success of
PATCHES and the overall well-being of the children they serve.

In addition to the Snoezelen Room, our team plans to bring “Disney World” to the children
at PATCHES, whom due to their terminal illness or inability travel, will never have the
opportunity. This event will bring much needed joy and an experience they will never
forget.
